Celebrate the Winter Solstice with Hygge
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
The longest night of the year, winter solstice takes place on Saturday, December 21; this darkness is marked by a movement towards the lengthening of days and journey towards spring. Every year Bethlehem Centre marks the occasion with a free (by donation) slate of evening events designed for all ages. This year’s event is themed around ‘hygge’ (pronounced hoo-ga), the Scandinavian term for “creating cosy and convivial atmospheres that promote well-being.” The Centre is creating this atmosphere through inviting visitors to walk the only flat stone labyrinth in Nanaimo, which will be bathed in the tranquil glow of candle-lit lanterns. Indoors, visitors can participate in a chanting workshop led by Leah Hokanson or listen to great music by local musician Tony Turner. Events start at 4:30pm.
Schedule:
4:30 The evening starts with Leah Hokanson conducting a chanting workshop in the Chapel. Participation is by donation
5:30 Hygge Winter Meal (RSVP required – see below).
6:30 Ben Bollich, Tibetan Bowl & Gong Meditation
7:00 Enjoy a peaceful walk through the Labyrinth accompanied by the tranquil glow of candle-lit lanterns and facilitated by Holly Carnegie Letcher
7:15 Music with Tony Turner
6 – 8:00 Enjoy the West Coast’s only Finger Labyrinth Museum with expert Carol Matthews
Nestled amongst the natural forest beauty, visitors are invited to enjoy a ‘hygge winter meal’ created by our in-house Chef Margot Bochon and her team. The dinner is a sell-out every year, so buy tickets early online at the Bethlehem Centre https://bethlehemcentre.com/events/eighth-annual-winter-solstice-celebration-and-labyrinth-walk/
The Centre is located at 2371 Arbot Drive, on Westwood Lake and open to the public. Free parking is available onsite or adjacent to the property. We hope to see you soon!
