The 34th annual Canada Day parade takes place on Friday, July 1. The Port Alberni Folkfest Multicultural Society organizes the parade each year to honour Canada's birthday. This year, Canada is 144 years young, and our theme is "Celebrate Our Community!" We're celebrating all the things we do to make Port Alberni the greatest place to be.

PARADE START TIME IS 10:00 AM! For spectators, best viewing is along 10th Avenue, from Burde to Hollywood. There are two reviewing stands. The Safeway reviewing stand is at the 10th Avenue entrance to Safeway. The Shaw Cable reviewing stand is at Echo Centre. Both are equipped with loudspeakers and staffed by commentators.

NEW THIS YEAR: 93.3 The Peak hosts the Safeway reviewing stand -- Evan "the Hammer" Hammond, Jolie McMullen, and David Wiwchar will be your commentators.

Come and "Celebrate Our Community". Put on your red and white in honour of Canada Day! Bring a flag to wave, a hat to wear, sunscreen, water and a baggie to take away any litter. Pets are best left in comfort at home. Sudden noises and unexpected movements along the parade route can distress even the best-behaved animal companion.

CANADA DAY EVENTS SCHEDULE:
10:00 am
Parade starts (along 10th Avenue from Burde to Hollywood)

11:30 am
Ceremonial flag-raising outside Glenwood Centre, with Royal Canadian Legion, RCMP Red Serge Contingent, West Coast Highlanders Pipe Band

11:45 am
Opening ceremonies inside Glenwood, followed by Canada's birthday cake (free! sponsored by Canada Safeway) Ethnic Food Fair also available at reasonable cost.

12:15 pm
Entertainment Showcase begins.
