On July 1st, 2014, Nuyumbalees Cultural Centre will host Canada Day at the Cape, Quadra Islands only Canada Day celebration. The event pairs many typical festival activities with tours of the Sacred Potlatch Collection and ancient petroglyphs, heritage walks to the landing site of Captain George Vancouver, Elders storytelling, an artisan marketplace, a variety of family programs, a community feast and the rededication of three historic welcome poles.
The highlight for many attendees will be the arrival of the traditional Tribal Journey canoes who enter our territory on July 1st from Washington State en route to their final destination in Bella Bella. This group of more than 1,000 paddlers will be joined by Her Honour Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.
We welcome you to join us for this unique Canada Day celebration that will bring together an estimated 5,000 guests to our community. Complimentary shuttle services from the ferry dock and other locations throughout the Island, to the Village will be available all day.
Please visit nuyumbalees.com for a complete event schedule. We look forward to welcoming you to the Village of Cape Mudge this summer.
