Opening Reception, November 14th from 6pm - 9pm. Join us for coffee and sweets and meet this gifted artist.
Saltwater, Soil and Steel explores two opposites, the natural and constructed worlds. Throughout much of Fiona’s work various themes of nature have been prevalent, contrasted with architectural forms. The selected works journey the viewer through various pieces illustrating these themes.
Impacts of human life scar our planet in profound but sometimes subtle ways; many of the works have this underlying motif. From large whales in the sea, plants and birds to tall skyscrapers and landscapes this show is diverse in imagery and exploration.
Fiona Hawkes is a young artist living and attending school in Nanaimo. Working in a variety of mediums such as charcoal, acrylic paint, watercolor and photography, her work is a constant exploration in technique and subject matter.
After graduating from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in the spring of 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts Fiona relocated to Bamfield on the West Coast. While there she became involved with many community projects, including the restoration painting of an outdoor mural. Fiona is currently attending VIU working on her Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design.
