<p><strong><em>Saltwater, Soil and Steel</em> </strong>explores two opposites, the natural and constructed worlds. Throughout much of Fiona&rsquo;s work various themes of nature have been prevalent, contrasted with architectural forms.&nbsp; The selected works journey the viewer through various pieces illustrating these themes.</p>=0D=0A=
<p>Impacts of human life scar our planet in profound but sometimes subtle ways; many of the works have this underlying motif. &nbsp;From large whales in the sea, plants and birds to tall skyscrapers and landscapes this show is diverse in imagery and exploration.</p>=0D=0A=
<p>Fiona Hawkes is a young artist living and attending school in Nanaimo. &nbsp;Working in a variety of mediums such as charcoal, acrylic paint, watercolor and photography, her work is a constant exploration in technique and subject matter.</p>=0D=0A=
<p>After graduating from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in the spring of 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts Fiona relocated to Bamfield on the West Coast. &nbsp;While there she became involved with many community projects, including the restoration painting of an outdoor mural. &nbsp;Fiona is currently attending VIU working on her Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Graphic Design.</p>=0D=0A=
