In November 2009 The Victoria Film Festival hosted the first annual Art of the Cocktail, a fundraiser that celebrated the art of mixology: the skill of mixing alcoholic beverages. The series of events included the Grand Tasting (cocktail sampling, and gourmet appetizers), workshops sharing industry secrets from expert mixologists, and raucous bartender competitions.
