Cathy Converse presents “Against the Current: The Remarkable Life of Agnes Deans Cameron,” an illustrated lecture based on her newly released book.

Agnes Deans Cameron was an extraordinary woman who set the educational establishment on edge. Born in Victoria to Scottish immigrants in 1863, she was ahead by a century and achieved a number of “firsts” in her life. She was one of the most well-known educators, writers, and lecturers in Canada and put western Canada on the map through her writing, cycling, and encouragement of Western immigration.

In commemoration of Canada’s 150th anniversary, she was named one of the top most significant individuals in the history of the province of BC.

Victoria author Cathy Converse has been writing for over thirty years and has written and co-authored six books and numerous cover stories for magazines and journals. Her most recent book, "Following the Curve of Time," was a BC Book Prize finalist for the Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award.

"Against the Current: The Remarkable Life of Agnes Deans Cameron" will be available for purchase ($30.00 plus tax, TouchWood Editions) and signing after the talk.

Admission to the evening is $5 per Historical Society member; $6 non-members (plus GST). Advance tickets are strongly recommended as the museum lecture series frequently sells out. FMI: 250-334-0686 ext. 5.
