Please join us for presentations and a panel discussion with leading researchers and rehabilitation specialists in the field of acquired brain injury in children and youth. Learn about the latest approaches to concussion diagnosis and management in children and youth.


This event will be of interest to health and social service providers, education and sports professionals, athletes, students, community organizations, parents, family caregivers and individuals affected by acquired brain injury. Doors and light refreshments at 8:30am.


PRESENTERS: Dr. Brian Christie - Dr. Christie is currently a Professor in the Island Medical Program. He is the director of the Neuroscience Graduate Program at UVic and is also the new director of the Health Research Advisory Council for the University of Victoria. Dr. Christie and his colleagues are conducting studies to understand the recovery process following a mild traumatic brain injury. Commonly known as concussion, mild traumatic brain injury can cause cognitive and behavioural challenges with serious effects to memory, attention and ability to understand.


Dr. Jacqueline Purtzki - Dr. Jacqueline Purtzki is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Pediatrics and Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UBC, who practices pediatric and adult rehabilitation medicine at GF Strong and BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. Her special interests are in pediatric brain injury rehabilitation, adolescent complex concussion treatment, transition to adult services for children with complex neuromuscular conditions and long-term care of youth with spinal cord injuries.
