A Community Conversation with Nature - In Sound and Silence
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
HOSTED by Songweaver Danielea Castell, with artist/musicians Mary Ann Moore, Missy & Andre Nobels, Lance Lightheart, Allannah Dow and Terry Mack; Instruments: guitar, cello, harmonium, voice, frame drum and native American flute.
YOU ARE INVITED to witness and participate in a creative dialogue with Nature facilitated by musicians and artists at the Bowen Park duck pond. This event is based on a vision I received in March 2010 for a new kind of outdoor music concert.
Instead of the musicians and the audience sharing the music amongst themselves, the music is spontaneously composed and offered to the Land as a form of communication. Where applause would normally happen, we listen as a group to hear the Land speak back to us.
This purpose for this kind of exchange is to get to know each other better. Although this event has a clear structure, the content is predominantly experiential and improvisational. This idea is founded on the premise that all lifeforms are sentient, and that speaking and listening with our hearts is a universal language which can transcend species boundaries. Thankyou for joining us in this sincere experiment in inter-species relations!
SO WHAT EXACTLY ARE WE DOING?
Think of it this way.
When we meet a new friend, how do we get to know them?
We meet in a cafe, arrive at an appointed place and time, exchange greetings, sit facing each other and begin to dialogue. We take turns telling each other about ourselves and our lives, often sharing from our heart, weaving a personal connection and creating shared memories. With a bit more time together we enter a deeper layer of listening and get to know each other better, learn something unique about the other and their skills, passion or perspective. Sometimes we even learn something new about ourselves. When our visit is over, we thank each other and say goodbye - until the next time we meet, sit together and share from our hearts again.
A COMMUNITY CONVERSATION WITH NATURE will unfold with much the same formality and intent, replacing the verbal words with improvised music by musicians and at key times with tones and chanting by the whole group. We will open the dialogue and the Land will have the last say.
PLANNING
Please plan to participate in the Opening and Closing circles which happen before and after our 'Conversation with Nature'. In the circles we will weave our group connection, set our intentions and share what we 'heard' and learned about our new non-human neighbours at the pond. Please arrive on or before 6:20pm. Bring bottled water, a cushion and folding chair.
