Take part in the joie de vivre of French Canadian culture as we tap into culture, friends, and fun at the Maple Sugar Festival du Sucre d’Érable in beautiful Nanaimo!
This year, we celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary! Bonne fête, Canada!
Welcome to the 16th Maple Sugar Festival du Sucre d’Érable! Join us for the many festivities! Wear red, bring your flag, and participate in time-honoured Canadian traditions! And to further honour this special time in our history, entrance fees are by donation only this year!
It begins on Friday night, February 24, as we participate in that great Canadian tradition, hockey, with Nanaimo Clippers’ fans attending the last home game of the season at Frank Crane Arena. Food (including poutine) and entertainment will be available on the concourse. And at the Festival’s site, the Social Centre, more food (including Montreal Smoked Meat) will be available from the expanded menu at the Chez Ti-Père cantina. High-energy musical performances will take place on the main stage of the Beban Social Centre till late in the evening.
Amazing performances will take place on the main stage throughout the weekend. Traditional and world music, as well as innovative new musical styles, will delight all audiences.
In the corner of this great hall, will be featured the well-named Kids’ Corner on February 25 and 26. Clowns, face painters, tattoo/make-up artists, a very popular balloon twister, and fun games will entertain children of all ages.
Our Community Market will be open from February 24 to 26. Check out the artisans’ wares and visit the informational community booths. Don’t forget to drop by for a visit and select from a wide variety of maple products at L’Association des francophones de Nanaimo’s kiosk.
