YOUR WATER, YOUR FUTURE FORUM

Vancouver Island Water Watch Coalition (VIWWC) is hosting a two day water forum in Nanaimo on Saturday May 29th and Sunday May 30th.

On May 29th residents are invited on free bus tours of some of Nanaimo�s Drinking Water Supply facilities to see how they operate and to meet the people who maintain our water system. City of Nanaimo Water Department staff will be conducting these tours.

On May 30th residents can come and hear speakers such as Maude Barlow, National Chair Person of the Council of Canadians and former Senior United Nations Advisor on Water, speak about Water as a Human Right and other important Global Issues Concerning Water.
Rafe Mair, a former lawyer and Cabinet Minister will speak about Run of the River Projects in British Columbia.
Corky Evans, who has ten years experience as an MLA during which time he served in many Cabinet Portfolios, including Minister of Agriculture as well as Food and Fisheries.
Arthur Caldicott, an analyst of Energy and Mining Issues who focuses on Environmental, Health and Public Interest Aspects of those concerns.

In addition to these Speakers there will be four workshops presented looking at the many concerns related to our water.
Andrew Gage, an Environmental Lawyer with West Coast Environmental Law � �Legal Options for Source Protection�
Ingmar Lee, Community Activist � �The Industrial Logging of the Nanaimo�s Drinking Water Shed�
Trevor Wicks, - �Looking at the Source: A well Protected Drinking Water Supply�
Robin Matthews � �Privatization: Local, National and International Theft.�

A Free Lunch is provided on both days.
