Based on his own 1974 cult classic movie of the same name starring Gene Wilder, Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein (The Broadway Musical) opened in New York on November 8, 2007
The delightfully hysterical production enjoyed a successful Broadway run, earning four Tony nominations and winning the Outer Critics Circle award for Best Musical. This was Brooks’ second Broadway production, following on the heels of the wildly successful The Producers. He wrote the score himself and earned a Grammy nomination for the Broadway soundtrack.
Young Frankenstein (The Broadway Musical) takes the hysterical dialogue and zany characters from the original film basically completely intact and weaves in Brooks’ all new score. After successful runs on Broadway and London’s West End, the show also enjoyed rave reviews with touring companies before being released just a few years ago for school and community groups to license.
Spectrum Community School’s production runs March 1, 2, 7, 8, 9 @ 7:30 and March 10 @ 2:00.
