Living the Questions writing circle takes place on beautiful Vancouver Island in Nanaimo, BC at Bethlehem Centre, 2371 Arbot Rd. The circle focuses on developing writing skills in the peaceful, tranquil and meditative woodlands and lakeside setting of Westwood Lake at Bethlehem Centre. This wonderful writing circle is open to all levels of experience and includes snacks and a delicious lunch.

In a writing circle with the theme of “Living the Questions,” you will have an opportunity for replenishment, an honouring of your voice and a chance to write what has meaning for you. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned writer, we’ll take our time with the questions we carry and have a look at inspiration from other writers and poets like Rumi, Rainer Maria Rilke, Mary Oliver, Alison Pick, David Whyte and others. “The asking of new questions often leads us to the perilous, growing edge of our minds”, Dawna Markova has written and that sort of challenge, that “growing edge,” is something to stretch towards in our writing and in our lives. A labyrinth walk will offer calm and rebalance with an opportunity to enter with a question and return with an answer. Or as Rainer Maria Rilke advised: “perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”

Rumi was a Sufi mystic and poet (Muslim); Rilke, Oliver and Whyte are from a Christian tradition; Alison Pick is from a Jewish tradition. Mary Ann Moore brings her passion for poetry and for writing as a spiritual practice to the circles she offers. As a poet, writer and circle leader, she has twenty years of experience of writing in community and finds great delight in seeing people awaken their creative potential. As well as day-long circles at Bethlehem Centre and elsewhere, Mary Ann offers six-week women’s writing circles called Writing Life. Mary Ann’s poetry, fiction and personal essays have appeared in chapbooks, literary journals, websites, anthologies, on CD and in a full-length book of poems, Fishing for Mermaids (Leaf Press, 2014). She writes a blog at www.apoetsnanimo.ca and offers a mentoring program called Writing Home: A Whole Life Practice which you can learn more about on her website: www.maryannmoore.ca.

Tuition is $125.00 and includes lunch and snacks. Join us and focus on balance, writing exploration, and furthering your skills for a fun day of self-development. Refresh your writing approach within the serene woodland and lakeside sanctuary of Bethlehem Centre.
