Babette's Feast (1987)
A true classic in every sense of the word "Babette's Feast" is a wonderful exploration of the meaning of artistry, generosity, loyalty, and grace. Humor is mixed with tender longing; characters are treated with searching honesty and deep respect. Meditations abound on memory, fate, old age and faithfulness. Marvelous camera work by cinematographer Henning Kristiansen accompanied by delicious period music, make this a feast for the eyes and the spirit. As the General in the film says, "Mercy and truth have met together, and righteousness and bliss shall kiss one another." 1986 Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language Film.
