Indian Horse (2018)

An adaptation of Richard Wagamese’s award-winning novel, this moving drama is a true testimony to the indomitable spirit of aboriginal people. Set in 1950s Ontario, 8-year-old Saul is torn from his Ojibway family and committed to one of the notorious Catholic Residential Schools, where he is denied the freedom to speak his own language and embrace his heritage. Suffering horrendous abuse at the hands of those entrusted with his care, Saul finds salvation in the unlikeliest of places – hockey. Addressing the dark history of Canada’s aggressive assimilation policies and overt racism, Indian Horse is a survivor’s tale that offers the opportunity for each of us to foster the compassion and understanding needed to heal deep wounds.
