Last Men in Aleppo (2017)
Winner of the 2017 Sundance Grand Jury Prize, this gripping documentary offers both a portrait of extraordinary bravery as well as a searing example of boots-on-the-ground reportage. Filmed in war-torn Syria, we enter the lives of three founding members of the internationally-recognized White Helmets, a search-and-rescue organization comprised of ordinary citizens who voluntarily rush towards military strikes in order to save lives. With breath-taking suspense, the viewer experiences the daily life and death struggles of Aleppo’s citizens, and the excruciating dilemma of people forced to choose between fleeing their beloved homeland or standing firm amid the uncertainty and destruction.
