West Coast Winter Music Series Presents Ensemble Vivant

Founded and led by pianist Catherine Wilson, Ensemble Vivant, “Canada’s Chamber Music Treasure” (Toronto Star), has dazzled audiences worldwide with innovative, genre-diverse programming both in concert and on their many recordings for almost three decades. A pioneer among piano chamber ensembles, Ensemble Vivant has garnered accolades internationally from the classical and jazz worlds. As well as performing the mainstream classical piano chamber literature, Ensemble Vivant has introduced world music and jazz related repertoire to its audiences with arrangements that were written exclusively for the group by some of the greatest jazz composers of our time.

The group’s innovative programming features familiar classical, Latin and jazz-related repertoire along with beautiful lesser-known compositions from these same genres. Part of Ensemble Vivant’s mandate is to introduce these newly found gems in concerts and recordings. EV’s uniquely genre-diverse repertoire is stunningly beautiful and is unfailingly performed with the group’s signature passion, virtuosity, supreme musical sensitivity and flare. Jazz great Rick Wilkins, C.M. said, “no matter the genre, there is magic in Ensemble Vivant’s music making.” The group’s enormous repertoire is ever growing and also includes newly written compositions from the classical and jazz genres. Composers such as Rick Wilkins, John Burke, Srul Irving Glick, Aldemaro Romero and others have written for Ensemble Vivant.

It’s the 15th season for Winter Music in Tofino.  The shows are bigger than ever and showcase a wide range of talent, from classical to jazz and roots. All concerts held at the Clayoquot Sound Theatre, starting at 7:30 pm.
