On May 10th, 1994 Los Angeles-based rock band Weezer released their self-titled debut album, also known as the “Blue Album". Fans and listeners may recognize MTV and radio-friendly hits like “Buddy Holly” and "Say It Ain’t So”, which still find their way onto the airwaves today, along with newer tracks from the band’s enduring career.
Fast-forward 25 years and four Nanaimo-area musicians are planning a tribute concert at The Nanaimo Bar to mark the special occasion. Singer-songwriter David Bitonti will join forces with local trio Kevin’s Bacon (Tim Lorimer, Angela Birtwistle and Nathan Stafford) to play the Blue Album in its entirety, followed by an after-party featuring more live music and dancing.
“We really wanted to celebrate this album that has been a part of our lives for a quarter-century,” says Kevin’s Bacon bassist Nathan Stafford. “We’re excited to perform these songs in a live setting with our talented friend David.”
