Quarterback Jordan Yantz of the Vancouver Island Raiders has been awarded the 2012 Wally Buono Award. He becomes the third Raider to win the Wally Buono Award in its ten year existence. Previous Raider players to win the award are BC Lions running back Andrew Harris in 2009 and Michael Schaper in 2011. Both ex-Raiders will be on hand on March 17th to welcome Yantz at an event as the Nanaimo
Museum and Sports Hall of Fame, which is home to the Wally Buono Award. Jordan is the CJFL all time leading passer for yards and touchdowns in a single season as he threw for over 100 touchdowns in his career. BC Lions General Manager & VP of Football Operations, Wally Buono had the following to say about Jordan Yantz on behalf of his daughter and himself:
Christie and I are very pleased to name Jordan as the 2012 recipient of the WBA. He's a good young Quarterback who works extremely hard to improve his skills. Jordan is a fine young man whom we expect big things out of as he moves to the next phase of his football journey.
The Wally Buono Award Exhibit is permanently housed at the Nanaimo Museum & Sports Hall of Fame. Museum General Manager Debbie Trueman added that; The museum is so pleased to have Wally Buono here to present this years award to our local star Jordan Yantz. We are thrilled to be part of this event and the home of the Wally Buono Award. Thanks to the Saint Bernard Pass Foundation, Chance Saint Marche and Christie Buono.
