Achieving Global Sustainability: A Decent Life For All, It's Up To Us!

The Paris Agreement, Canada’s Plan & Realizing Opportunity

Presenter: Tom Pedersen, PhD, FRSC, FAGU; Professor (UVIC)

In his presentation, Dr. Pedersen will address the question: How can Canada meet its commitments to the Paris Accord while building a more sustainable and economically robust society?

Dr. Pedersen, founding Executive Director of the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions at UVIC, is a Professor in UVIC’s School of Earth and Ocean Sciences. He is currently Chair of the Board of the Climate Forum in Ottawa. Dr. Pedersen is internationally recognized for his research into the history of oceans and the response of the sea to climate change through time. Current research is focused on oceanographic history along the western margin of North America and the relationship of observed variability to global and regional climate change.

Anwyn Woodyatt, Kwalikum Secondary School Graduate 2017, participant in the 2017 Summer School for Young Physicists organized by the Perimeter Institute of Theoretical Physics in Toronto, and youth advocate for environmental sustainability, will introduce Dr. Pedersen.
