Achieving Global Sustainability: A Decent Life for All, It's Up To Us!

Global Population, Growth & Sustainable Development

Presenter: William Rees, PhD, FRSC; Professor Emeritus (UBC)

In his presentation, Dr. Rees will address the question: Can we achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals given current and projected populations?

Dr. Rees, former Director of UBC’s School of Community and Regional Planning, is a bio-ecologist and ecological economist, perhaps best known as the originator and co-developer of ecological footprint analysis. He is a Fellow (Ecology & Resilience) of the post carbon institute, an international organization based in Corvallis, Oregon “leading the transition to a more resilient, equitable and sustainable world”. Dr. Rees, an internationally recognized writer and speaker, is recipient of many awards and has been a member of the Club of Rome since 2014.

Rex Wyler, a director of the original Greenpeace Foundation and co-founder of Greenpeace International and of Hollyhock Lifelong Learning Centre on Cortes Island, will introduce Dr. Rees.
