Events at VIUs Nanaimo campus will mark the VIU Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

British Columbia has declared September 16 to 22, 2013, Reconciliation Week in support of the healing process undertaken through The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC).

In support of the Commission's work, and to demonstrate that VIU understands the important role the Commission plays in fostering understanding of the history and legacy of the residential school experience on Canada's Aboriginal populations, VIUs Senate endorsed a motion designating Friday, September 20, 2013, as a "VIU Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

Events planned for this day at VIUs Nanaimo, Cowichan and Powell River campuses in recognition of the important work of the TRC include a film titled Muffins for Granny, a lunch at Shqapthut, the Gathering Place at VIU, and a Walk for Reconciliation on the Nanaimo campus. (See below for full events schedule.)

Participants are encouraged to wear red to show their support for the TRC.
