Speaker: Grace Salez

Visiting Artist Grace Salez, guest curator of VIDEO BODY: THE PRIVATE SELF AS PUBLIC, currently showing at the VIU Nanaimo Art Gallery, is interested in how artists engage their bodies and video technology in their creative process. “This is not TV, this is not a film, this is not theater, this is not a commercial, and I am not a passive viewer. I am an active viewer, and I exist to also become an engaged body in a public space alongside these projected personal narratives.”

As a sessional in the Visual Arts Department at The University of Victoria, Grace teaches and lectures on Video Art and is a founding member and President of MediaNet, a resource center for film/video artists in Victoria. Her work has screened and been exhibited nationally and internationally.
