Vimy 100th Commemoration - Fort Rodd Hill

The 5th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery will fire a Vimy Ridge salute, with rapid firing of 100 rounds from their 105mm Howitzers at Fort Rodd Hill National Park, in conjunction with Parks Canada VIMY 100 event.
The Activities at Fort Rodd Hill include:
·6:00 pm to 7:00 pm - Activities: Listen to music by the 5th Field Regiment, RCA Band and stories by historians and local military re-enactors, do commemorative crafts, enjoy hot chocolate around a campfire. Stop by our new Women on the Home Front display to appreciate the role of women during this time of war.
·8:00 pm - Ceremony: Official speeches, a colour party from Royal Canadian Legion Branch 91 and a tribute to Victoria’s own General Sir Arthur Currie.
· 8:30 pm - 100-round rapid fire-barrage by the guns of the 5th Field Regiment, RCA: As the ground trembles from the powerful shots and the deafening sound echoes across the land and sea, imagine what our Canadian soldiers’ must have felt at this very moment 100 years ago.
5 Field Regiment has its home at Bay Street Armoury in Victoria. The Regiment was formed in Victoria and traces its lineage back to 12 October 1883 in Victoria, British Columbia as the British Columbia Provisional Regiment of Garrison Artillery. Its members have been in the Boer War, World War One, World War Two, Korea, peace-keeping, the former Yugoslavia and to the Afghanistan War. Unfortunately, one if its members Master Bombardier Myles Mansell was killed in action in Afghanistan.
As the Artillery supports army operations anywhere, anytime - The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery has its Regimental motto "Ubique" which means "everywhere" in Latin. The 5th (British Columbia) Field Artillery Regiment of The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery is an Army Reserve Artillery Regiment of the 39 Canadian Brigade Group. We are garrisoned in Victoria, B.C. at the Bay Street Armoury with another battery at the Brigadier Sargent Armoury in Nanaimo, B.C. The 5th (British Columbia) Field Artillery Regiment, RCA has been serving in Victoria since Confederation. It has the Honour of being the oldest army regiment west of the great lakes, officially formed on July 20 1878, and historically tied to Sir Arthur Currie, as the regiment he commanded before the outbreak of World War One.
