Victorian Victoria: The Town the Roscoes Knew

Thursday, November 21st, 2019
7:30 PM to 9:00 PM

Join us at your local historic house museum for another exploration into our city's past through the eyes of the Roscoe family.

Where did Ross Bay Villa's first inhabitant, Francis Roscoe, tie up his horse? Where did he lunch? Is it a coincidence that architects Wright & Sanders had an office on Yates Street close to the Fellowes and Roscoe hardware store? Did Francis drop off the family’s washing at the Chinese laundry up the street from the hardware store? Where did his Volunteer Rifles meet? Where was the bank where he served on the board? Did the family patronize Fell’s Grocery, or Nicholson’s?

Of course, local author Nick Russell might not know all the answers but, by using archival images and our own imaginations, he will take us time-travelling through Old Town and to 1860s and 1870s buildings from the Roscoe era that still survive today. Thursday November 21, 2019. Illustrated lecture 7:30pm.

Tickets are $10 and must be purchased in advance. You can get your ticket online at https://tinyurl.com/r8ktaae or you can purchase tickets cash only at Ross Bay Villa on Saturday between 11:00 and 2:00.
