VICTORIAN MOTHER’S DAY FIDDLE CONTRA DANCE at the MERVILLE HALL What a wonderful opportunity to get dressed up in your hoopiest Victorian dress, (skillfully hitched over your tightest whaleboned corset), and dance a couple of crazy Contra dances down at the Big Yellow Merville hall. Yes, the stars have aligned and Victoria Day and Mother’s Day are both in the same month so we have a theme for our festivities.
On Saturday, May 20th, join the poised, tea drinking Funtime Fiddlers as they politely pump out the jigs and reels for the highly popular contra dances. Lead by Lady June of Hornby, our dance caller, you’ll primly skip about the dance hall with laughter and an innocent heart. All are welcome to attend this family friendly function, (servants included).
Doors to this Merville Glass Palace open at 7:00 and there will be a brief Contra Dance workshop right before the dance. At 7:30, spritely waving their brollies about their heads, the Funtime Fiddlers silly walk onto the stage, put down their briefcases and.....rip into the first tune. Hold on to your pork pie hats, folks.
Single dancers and families are very welcome. Singles can pair up with anyone during the Contras and our Contra sets last about 15 to 20 minutes. In between the called Contra dances, we’ll play waltzes, polkas and swing tunes. Do come as a Victorian Dandy and win a Spot Dance prize.
