The Victoria Historical Society presents “Collecting the Newcombes, Father and Son” with Kevin Neary on October 25, at James Bay New Horizons, 234 Menzies Street, Victoria, BC V8V 2G7. Doors open at 7:15 pm for refreshments and conversation. A short business meeting at 7:45 pm will be followed by the speaker.

Much of the Royal BC Museum’s core holdings in First Nations, botany, marine biology, paleontology, maps, diaries and photographs as well Emily Carr’s artworks, were collected by one family - Dr. Charles F. Newcombe and his son William A. Newcombe. The story of the Newcombes is fascinating on many levels – it is full of drama and intrigue, and laden with events that resound in contemporary issues for BC.

Kevin Neary knew the Newcombe family and worked for 24 years at the Royal BC Museum as an anthropologist and as a public programs producer. He left the museum in 1996 to form Traditions Consulting Services, Inc. and has since then worked as a consultant to numerous First Nations, museums and other clients.

Admission is free for members; $5 for guests. Contact us at www.victoriahistoricalsociety.bc.ca
