Victoria Genealogical Society workshop: Working with the Memorials of Deeds of Ireland - prospecting for Irish Gold with presenter Heather Jones.
Did your Irish ancestors belong to the middle class, have a trade or business and/or have sufficient financial resources to purchase a lease lasting at least 3 years?
If so, then they may be found in the Memorials of Deeds of Ireland. The registration of Memorials began 1708 and the LDS films available cover up to 1929.
This workshop will cover:
the purpose of the documents
which deeds could be registered
the process by which they were created and registered
the type of information contained in the Memorials
how to access the information
problems with the indexes and the Memorials themselves
available resources which provide assistance when using the Memorials
future availability of the documents or extractions from the documents
Heather has been working with the Memorials for 6 years and will focus her presentation on those registered between 1785 and 1825. While she will be talking about a very small section of the documents available, she will be sharing a number of specific tips to increase the rewards of your time and effort.
