The Victoria Genealogical Society�s Annual Seminar, an opportunity to learn from the experts, meet others with similar research interests, have fun with friends, support genealogy,and so much more.

What will it be about? This seminar is for you if you:

Who are the speakers and what will they be talking about?

Eunice Robinson is Education Chair and a Director of the British Columbia Genealogical Society and Facilitator of the BCGS Irish Group. She is an entertaining speaker and has many years of Irish research experience.
Lorraine Irving is a long time member of the British Columbia Genealogical Society and an experienced researcher of UK records.

Lorraine and Eunice often combine their expertise and collaborate. These experienced speakers will present joint sessions which will focus primarily on the similarities and differences of the records of Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales as well as offer offer comparisons with Canadian and / or US records. The joint sessions will emphasize: Civil Registration- What is it and why do family historians pursue these records? This session will answer both of these questions plus provide tools to conduct a successful search for these records and understand the limitations that may exist. Census Records � Often referred to as �bridging documents� this session will address the value of census records. Discussion will include learning about various census, substitutions, and how to locate them.
Scott Munro is an Adult Services Librarian from the Greater Victoria Public Library. Back by popular request, Scott will bring updates to the Technology Petting Zoo and the technological services available from the GVPL.
An additional speaker will soon be announced.

Vancouver Island Technology Park (VITP) Business Centre,
Building #200, 4464 Markham St., Victoria, BC.
The VITP Business Centre is located at the main entrance of the Technology Park. There is ample FREE parking at the front of the building.

How do I get there?

By car: Parking is FREE on Saturdays! The easiest way to find the Vancouver Island Technology Park (VITP) is to go via West Saanich Road and Markham Street.
By Bus: There is no frequent bus transportation on the weekends. VGS members wishing a ride or able to provide a ride should indicate this on their registration forms.

What does it cost?

The Early Bird seminar fee is $65.00 for paid up VGS Members and $75.00 for non-members. Early Bird cut off is October 11, 2013.
After October 11 registration is $70 for members and $80 dollars for non-members.
What does the seminar fee include? The seminar fee Includes five sessions, lunch at the Hard Drive Caf� (on site), two (2) refreshment breaks and seminar handout materials.

Is advance registration necessary? Yes, advance registration by October 18, 2013 is required to allow space and meal planning.

Are registrations for half a day or partial days accepted? No

Can I cancel at the last minute if I have already registered? Registration may be cancelled with a 48 hour notice (by 9:00 AM on October 24th); the registration fee, minus $15 will be refunded.

Can special dietary requirements be accommodated? Yes, this should be indicated on the registration form.

I have mobility concerns, will this be a problem? No, the VITP Business Centre is wheelchair accessible.
