Based in Victoria, the Sweet Lowdown is a trio made up of three strong singers, instrumentalists, and songwriters: Amanda Blied (guitar), Shanti Bremer (banjo), and Miriam Sonstenes (fiddle). Together they create music inspired by their love of the old-time, folk, blues, and bluegrass traditions. In 2011, the trio won the Monday Magazine M Award for Favorite Roots/World Music Group.
Amanda developed her unique voice singing with the Balkan Babes and travel-ling in the southern USA. Shanti learned bluegrass banjo as a young girl and has played with the Victoria bluegrass band Last Train. Miriam is a classically trained violinist turned fiddler and has played with the Shearwater Bluegrass Band.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victorias best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evenings line-up.
