7:30 PM

Since 1995, Tania Opland and Mike Freeman have been touring the world together, presenting an eclectic mix of songs in several languages and acoustic music played on more instruments than any sane duo would travel with: hammered dulcimer, guitar, recorders, cittern, violin, Native American flute, ocarina, hurdy-gurdy, and a variety of percussive things. Their performances feature traditional and contemporary material from many cultures as well as original compositions, presented with wit and style. Mike’s irreverent sense of humour and Tania’s stunning vocals provide the springboard for a roller-coaster ride across several continents and back again.

Tania and Mike divide their time between Suquamish, Washington, and Inistioge, Ireland, because anyplace else would be too easy to spell. “A partnership made in heaven, they weave a fascinating musical tapestry.” — the Chester Festival, UK

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victoria’s best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evening’s line-up.
