7:30 PM

Syren is Melody Benbow and Fae Wiedenhoeft with Terry James on percussion. Since 1998, the group has played many venues, including Butchart Gardens, Craigdarroch Castle, and the Victoria Highland Games. They were a local favorite at the Folk-Life Festival in Seattle and the B.C. Renaissance Festival in Vancouver, with many a Northwest Celtic festival and folkish venue in between.

Together, Fae and Melody create a rich and seamless vocal blend that is rivaled only by rare sibling harmonies. Accompanying themselves with guitars, traditional instruments, and Terry's traditional percussion, they perform a delightful and stimulating range of songs, from old Scots jigs and reels to mystical Irish love songs to passionate ballads of their own composition. Hearing the Syren song is a must for fans of traditional Celtic music!

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victorias best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evenings line-up.
