The Soundings Vocal Ensemble is an auditioned group of 26 singers who seek to present music that is entertaining, innovative, and tightly rehearsed. The ensemble was founded in September 2001 by Denis Donnelly, who was also, many years earlier, a founding member of the Victoria Folk Music Society. Dennis received the 2010 Herbert Drost Award from the British Columbia Choral Federation for his contributions to choral music in our province.
The Soundings repertoire is made up of an eclectic mix of music from many traditions. The theme for tonights performance is Modern Popular Music. There will be songs by Pete Seeger, the Beatles, Sting, Bob Marley, Coldplay, and Randy Newman, among others artists whose songs are sung by ordinary people everywhere and have thus entered the folk tradition in its most inclusive sense.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victorias best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evenings line-up.
