Victoria Folk Music Society: Sarah Jane Scouten with Elise Boeur
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
Sarah Jane Scouten has been singing folk and country songs since she was five and playing guitar since she was twelve. Growing up on Bowen Island, she found inspiration in the music of Hank Williams and Stan Rogers, as well as in the bluegrass and gospel music that she played with her father.
Today she is a songwriter and touring performer based in Montreal. Her debut album, Magpie Waltz, features bluegrass and old-time music.
Sarah Jane pairs infectious melodies with lyrics that are candid, poignant, and flirtatious, demonstrating "a flair for tying emotions to arresting images" (Penguin Eggs). Joining Sarah Jane on our stage is Vancouver-based fiddler Elise Boeur.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victorias best weekly Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evenings line-up.
