Sahara Jane began touring her original music as a teenager with her sister Kamila. The duo produced two albums and played folk venues and festivals across Canada. Sahara then went on to study fine arts at York University in Toronto and Indian music in Mumbai. More recently, she has performed folk songs in India, played classical Indian sarangi at galleries in Canada, and sung jazz standards at hotels in China.
Sahara currently fronts two touring bands, Blue Lotus Trio, and Ask Your Sister. Her latest album, “Invincible”, has received regular airplay on CBC Radio since its release last summer.
Joined by Ken Shorley, a master percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer from her home province of Nova Scotia, Sahara once again brings us her unique and captivating blend of Maritimes folk and Indian raga.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victoria’s best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evening’s line-up.
