Victoria Folk Music Society presents Kray Van Kirk

In a third-grade writing exercise, Kray Van Kirk wrote that he wanted to be a singer and guitar-player when he grew up. Other aspirations and accomplishments have intervened since then, including a PhD in fisheries science and a day-job which he describes as figuring out how many fish are around, what they are doing, and why they are doing it. But the Alaskan songsmith and single father has always found a way to turn his various occupations and concerns into stepping stones back to the third grade. While parenting duties have obliged Kray to curtail his touring schedule somewhat, he still usually manages to get out of Alaska at least once a month.
In the interests of conservation, Kray no longer puts his recordings on physical CDs. Instead, he makes his original songs available for downloading free of charge on his website, www.krayvankirk.com.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victorias best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evenings line-up.
