As the tamaracks shed their needles in the fall of 2013, Kevin Roy wandered from the beaten path. He left a life of certainty, a professional career, in search of purpose through his love of songs, stories, and the open road. Raised in Winnipeg, in the heart of the long-grass prairie, Kevin was captivated by the recordings of Neil Young, Gram Parsons, and Tony Rice. Such artists provided the tools to build a foundation near the borders of folk and country.

Last summer Kevin recorded his debut EP, Taller than the Trees, backed by an ensemble featuring fiddler Jeremy Penner. Whether pining for lost love or protesting the government's removal of funding for the Experimental Lakes Area, his songs are about living for your desires in the face of life's uncertainties.

Kevin is joined for tonight's performance by mandolinist Donovan Locken.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victoria�s best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evening�s line-up.
