Victoria Folk Music Society presents: Jeff Warner

The Victoria Folk Music Society presents Jeff Warner, one of the foremost interpreters of traditional American music, on October 26.
A native of New York City, he grew up listening to the songs and stories of his parents Frank and Anne Warner and the traditional singers they met during their folksong-collecting trips through the rural USA. Jeff’s songs connect 21st-century audiences with the everyday lives of 19th-century Americans. In the words of Stuart Frank, curator of the New Bedford Whaling Museum, “He represents a tradition that is fundamentally unbroken since pre-industrial times.”
Jeff has performed widely, from large festivals in the UK to clubs, festivals, and schools across America. He has toured nationally for the Smithsonian Institution and recorded for Flying Fish (Rounder) Records and other labels. He accompanies himself on banjo, concertina, and guitar, not to mention spoons and bones.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victoria’s best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evening’s line-up.
