"It is curious," writes Jason Lowe, Australian and twenty-something, that "my two biggest musical influences are Canadians" of an earlier generation, namely Joni Mitchell and Neil Young. "A dear American friend introduced me to their music, and they instantly became my greatest heroes." Jason describes his music as "poetic, ambient folk" and his themes as "nature, love, adventure, loss, and the tragedies of the modern world." Accompanying himself on guitar, slide guitar, and harmonica, he has performed at folk and roots festivals across Australia.

"With a melody to make your heart be still, Lowe sings of fleeting peace, of having everything, if only for a time. And then he adds his scorching yet simultaneously delicate harmonica; for an acoustic coffeehouse show, Lowe knows how to mix it up and keep it interesting" (The Vancouver Weekly).

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victorias best weekly Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evenings line-up.
