With seven core band members ranging from ages 30 to 60, Janes Way is the Cowichan Valley's premier Celtic band, bringing a blend of youthful exuberance and seasoned musicianship to their ever-growing repertoire of traditional and original tunes.
With nearly a decade of playing together--and playing no less than 15 instruments among them-- the dynamic members of Janes Way are just as fun to watch as they are to listen to.
Committed to keeping traditional Celtic music alive, their sets resonate with the sounds of ancient Brittany and Galatia, Scotland, Ireland, and the East Coast of Canada.
Mixed in with these traditional tunes are the soul-stirring originals of Island songwriter and band member Paul C. Ruszel, in addition to a handful of crowd-pleasers by folk and modern fusion bands such as The Pogues, Shooglenifty and Spirit of the West.
In addition to Paul, Janes Way is comprised of fellow founding members Jane Way (flute, tin whistles, accordion) and Andy Cooper (bagpipes, mandolin, vocals, guitar), as well as Kim Cooper (bodhran, vocals), Steve Johnson (bass and snare drums, tin whistles, accordion), Eric Desaulniers (mandolin, banjo, recorder, spoons, and podotrythmie), and Suzanne Beaton (fiddle, vocals).

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victorias best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evenings line-up.
