Originally from Toronto, singer-songwriter Erik Johnson has returned to his home on Gabriola Island after a 15-year residence in the Nashville songwriting community. A veteran performer in the folk and alt-country genres, Erik is also a writer of blues and soul music. His self-penned album Waycross garnered airplay across Canada. His music video of “Firefly,” a track from the same album, received extensive rotation on music television in North America and abroad.
Erik is the composer and lyricist of the Jim Byrnes hit “That River,” which earned Jim a much-deserved Juno award. Several of Erik’s songs have been used in feature-length motion pictures. Erik is a founding member of the band Snake Island Railroad and is currently touring solo in support of his upcoming live-album release.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victoria’s best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evening’s line-up.
