David Newberry came to music via a path that is less than typical. He worked as a carpenter until a construction accident left him without the use of his left hand. When his physiotherapist suggested that he learn an instrument to help restore the injured appendage, he dug into the guitar. This in turn awakened the poet in him, and what started as rehabilitation ended as vocation.

David�s songs explore the paradox and complexity of the world we live in. Without sacrificing either hopefulness for truth or beauty for despair, he coaxes the listener into a conversation about life, art, and the magic of survival in challenging times.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victoria�s best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evening�s line-up.
