Hailing from Peterborough, Ontario, Chris MacLean drew inspiration from her tight-knit and musical family, as well as the sights and sounds of Canadian backwoods. A consummate explorer, Chris adeptly stretches herself across a wide musical spectrum from traditional and contemporary folk to jazz and world music. She has been busy in the six years since she released her last solo recording, “Feet Be Still”, which garnered multiple awards and nominations. Supported by The Canada Council for the Arts, her newest CD, “Procrastinator”, speaks to her transformative emotional journey and her mother’s final months.
In her many years as a professional musician, Chris has played a diverse mix of musical styles, as well as performing in trios, quartets, and as a solo performer. This Sunday she will be gracing the VFMS stage solo, and accompanying herself on acoustic guitar. Chris lives and works near Wakefield, Quebec, as a Voice Movement Therapy practitioner, a voice teacher, a choir leader, and a graphic artist.
Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victoria’s best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evening’s line-up.
