Victoria Folk Music Society Presents: Bocephus King

To his mother he's Jamie Perry, to his audience he's Bocephus King, and to his creditors he's "no longer at this address." Whatever you may call him, the enigmatic Vancouver native effortlessly and melodiously skirts between blues, alt-country, traditional-style songwriting, and modern aesthetics.
On his recent CD Willie Dixon God Damn! the raw-gravel hobo-rock and jazz-noir torch songs of his earlier recordings have given way to a sense of urgency, as if the album were a signpost at the end of the world. Avoiding the easy answers, Bocephus lets the poetry pour out of his heart like wine from a bottle. Musically, you can hear a vast array of influences ranging from the spaghetti-western soundscapes of Ennio Morricone to the Tex-Mex blues of T-Bone Burnett, with a bit of psychedelic folk-rock thrown in for good measure.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victorias best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evenings line-up.
