Victoria Folk Music Society Presents: Anne Janelle with James Hill

Cellist and singer Anne Janelle moves gracefully between classical and contemporary styles. Throughout her years of training as a classical performer Anne maintained a love of pop, jazz, and folk music. Her concert history includes performances with orchestras, ensembles, and soloists such as Kanye West, Bruce Cockburn, Holly Cole. Since 2006 she has performed widely with ukulelist and songwriter James Hill. Their CD True Love Don't Weep won Traditional Album of the Year at the 2009 Canadian Folk Music Awards.
Anne's songs, rich in complexity and candor, reflect a blend of influences ranging from Mozart to Feist to Nick Drake to John Zorn. Whether stripped bare or richly orchestrated, her musical melange swirls with honesty and sparkle, creating "a crystal-clear sound filled with warmth" (Bob Mersereau, CBC).
