Victoria Folk Music Society Presents: Allison Brown and Uncle Dan Henshall

Roots songstress Allison Brown and brave mandolin accompanist Uncle Dan Henshall are touring Canada this summer with Via Rail's On Board Entertainment Program. This is Uncle Dan's first cross-country trek, but the tour marks Allison's fourth visit to Vancouver Island, where she recorded both her first and second full-length albums at David Essig's studio. Allison was a favorite at the Islands Folk Festival in 2010.
A performer for over twenty years, Allison takes her country music with a side of syrup and keeps her folk as dusty as the cabin floor. With a hatful of broken hearts, bad weather, toils of the road, and leaps of faith, she combines original and classic roots material, all presented with striking conviction. In addition to live performance, Allison promotes Canadian music as a publicist, concert presenter, and radio host.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victorias best weekly Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evenings line-up.
