Variety's Boat for Hope in Victoria

On Saturday, June 4, children with special needs and their families will be treated to a day of pirate adventure on the high seas at Boat for Hope, a fundraiser in support of Variety - The Children’s Charity.

Beginning at HMCS Malahat, local skippers ferry the kids around Victoria’s Inner Harbour in search of loot, while marauding pirates bent on stealing the treasure give full chase en route to “Treasure Island” at the Canadian Coast Guard Station. “For the hundreds of kids who participate every year, the day is a wonderful opportunity to play games, have fun, and enjoy a barbeque in the park,” says Kristy Gill, Variety’s Executive Director. “For us at Variety, it is also an important fundraising opportunity for us to continue helping children with special needs.”

Donations help Variety step in where health care ends to provide direct support to children in Victoria with special needs. Funding is available for medical care and services, mobility and communication equipment and therapies, and education and experiences that foster development.

Variety sees children with special needs as champions who, with support, are able to triumph through challenges and fulfill their unique potential. Boat for Hope, which has raised over $1.2 million since its inception, is made possible thanks to its local sponsors: HMCS Malahat, Kal-Tire, Save-on-Foods, Victoria Fire Fighters, the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority and Trotac Marine.
