Expect the unexpected with the return of the Vancouver Island Symphony’s popular Summer Pop Up Concert Series featuring 3 VIS Ensembles performing works from all genres of music including Classical, Jazz, Latin, Traditional and Canadiana favourites.

There are multiple concert times (morning, afternoon, evening) in 10 beautiful outdoor locations in Nanaimo (3), Lantzville, Gabriola, Parksville, Yellowpoint, Cedar, Comox and Duncan. 45 people can attend with social distancing in place.

Come celebrate the summer of ’21 with the VIS Back Row Brass performing everything from nostalgic Canadiana, classic Disney, Broadway musicals to the Beatles! A fun show for all ages showing off the versatility of two trumpets, one horn, one trombone and an audience favourite – the TUBA!

Back Row Brass include: Trumpets: Stevan Paranosic, Mark D’Angelo; Horn: Karen Hough; Trombone: Scott MacInnes and Tuba: Nick Atkinson

Enjoy an up close and personal concert with VIS Principal Horn, Andrew Clark and VIS String Quartet.

The music to be performed includes: Handel’s Suite in D (HWV341), Quintet by Hoffmeister, Romance by Michael Haydn, Telemann’s Concerto for Violin and Horn (TWV43:F6) and Mozart’s Quintet (KV407).

#3 -The Marco Paolo Trio: August 18th-22nd

The Marko Paolo Trio are back performing this summer the classic music by Haydn, Beethoven, Bach, Brahms and Ibert. The Trio will also perform music inspired by classic French and Italian movies including “Les Parapluies de Cherbourg” and “Amelie”, as well as incredible music by Nino Rota from “The Godfather” and “La Vita e Bella”.

Under the artistic direction of our noted conductor, Pierre Simard, the Vancouver Island Symphony is a professional Canadian orchestra - one of only two on Vancouver Island. The VIS presents an annual season of world-class orchestral performances at the beautiful harbour setting of Nanaimo’s Port Theatre.
