Urban Photography

This course is intended to deepen the understanding of urban spaces and to enhance methodological skills for capturing different aspects of urban scenes. Photography can help us observe the details of everyday life we often overlook. By reflecting on urban subjects through photographic theories and contemporary examples, as well as with hands-on experience, students broaden their understanding on the subject and create a thematic-based photo project. By selecting and exploring a specific topic based on the idea of urban scenes, students learn to express their own personal responses to the subject.
The course includes on-location sessions, lectures and group discussions based on photos taken by students. Students will complete course with a final portfolio of works. Bring camera and notebook to first class.
Prerequisite: a basic understanding of how to use your own camera and how to upload images onto a computer.
