7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Uni 101 Presents is a space for open dialogue on the big issues that affect us all. Using critical thinking and collaborative learning, Uni 101 Presents will be hosting various events that explore the ways our world is structured and how we each shape and are affected by those structures.

Group discussion and meaningful conversation are crucial for deep learning. Uni 101 Presents creates a space for active engagement with critical and intellectually stimulating material. Small group discussions will be an important part of every
Uni 101 Presents event. Student volunteers from the University 101 program will facilitate these discussions.

University 101 is a program that offers free, non-credit courses for people who have faced barriers to post-secondary education. The primary goals of this program are to make education more accessible and to foster critical thinking. The goal of Uni 101 Presents is to create a space for engaged learning, critical thinking, and to open the University 101 learning environment to the wider UVic and Victoria communities.

Animals, a documentary film by Jason Young, 2003.
When Jason Young left Toronto and moved to a farm in Nova Scotia, he decided to face one of lifes more difficult questions: where does my meat come from? His decision to raise and slaughter his own animals led him to create this honest and emotional film about the complex relationship we have with livestock.

Animals is not only a film about the relationship between a farmer and his stock, but also a look at serious old-school farming, community, and relationships both human and non-human. The re-birth of the abandoned farm he and his wife take over mirrors his re-birth as he changes from urbanite to farmer.

June 27, 7:00pm
The film will start at 7:00pm in the Clearihue building at the University of Victoria, room A127.
Coffee and tea will be provided.
Group discussions will begin after the film, and the evening will wrap up at 9:00pm.
